Generative AI for Product Ideation and Market Research

After years building apps, launching platforms like KTZ Astrology, MyAfriqueMart, and FarmerTorks, and hustling with small businesses across Africa, I’ve learned this: understanding the problem is everything. If you don't, you're basically building castles in the sky—without the castle.

Good thing generative AI showed up like a superhero (minus the cape) to speed things up.

Here’s how I use it for ideation and market research.

1. From "Hmm" to "Heck Yes" in Minutes

When inspiration strikes but your brain hits "buffering," I toss the idea into ChatGPT and let it work its magic. For example:

"What unique diet plans would resonate with working professionals in Lagos who care about clean eating and African ingredients?"

In seconds, I’m looking at Afrocentric keto meals, local detox blends, and other mouth-watering ideas. It’s like brainstorming with a genius who never needs coffee.

2. Building Personas Faster Than a TikTok Trend

Need customer personas? I’ll prompt AI to whip up:

  • A Nairobi exec who counts carbs harder than calories

  • A broke student in Accra trying to be vegan without going bankrupt

The results aren’t perfect—but they're a heck of a starting point.

3. Competitor Intel Without the Detective Hat

Instead of doing deep dives that feel like Netflix true crime binges, I simply ask:

"Summarize top features, complaints, and pricing for meal delivery services in Nigeria."

Twenty minutes later, I’ve got the tea, the coffee, and the whole café.

4. Review Mining Without Losing My Mind

Ever tried reading 1,000 app reviews? It's about as fun as watching paint dry.

Now I just feed reviews to AI and ask:

"What are users loving and hating about XYZ app?"

Suddenly, patterns pop out like hidden pictures in those 90s magic eye posters.

Final Thought

Generative AI doesn’t replace real-world research—it turbocharges it. I move faster, think sharper, and find golden ideas without losing my sanity.

Moral of the story: ask smart questions, let AI sweat the small stuff, and keep your creative energy for the fun parts—like actually building things people love.
